It’s Easter time, and you know what that means… holidays, children and chocolates! Sounds like fun? It most certainly could be, but like every holiday, Easter has a couple of pitfalls. A moment on the lips…

Easter is not like Christmas. It really is not a good idea to do your Easter shopping early. You know what it’s like – all those chocolate treats waiting in your kitchen cupboard, calling to you, softly demanding that you come and sample a few, just one, or maybe two, or three. Pretty soon you have to go shopping all over again and carry around the guilt of eating all your children’s sweets, never mind the extra pounds. So keep the chocolate in the shops until the last possible moment.

Easter Bunnies, chocolates and religion

This one’s a bit of doozy. What on earth do rabbits and eggs have to do with this religious holiday anyway? If you know the answer, you might feel tempted to corner someone at your Easter gathering and tell them all about pagan symbols of fertility representing the start of spring, about how secular and religious celebrations coincide for commercial reasons and so on.  But seriously, who cares? There is no reason why you can’t enjoy the deeper meaning of the holiday and have some fun while you’re at it. So if you’re in the mood to show off your knowledge, make sure you’re dishing out the Easter eggs to keep you audience’s attention.

Egg hunt etiquette (part one)

Time to gather the kiddies, find a nice open space full of clever hidey-holes and have a good old Easter egg hunt. You might think that once the eggs are hidden and the kids are on their way you can relax.

Wrong. There is nothing worse than your child being the only who cannot find an egg. So you may need to guide the little one in the right direction.

If however you have an overwhelming compulsion to compete and hoard a stash of sweets (on your child’s behalf of course), slow down, take a deep breath and come back to your senses.

Egg hunt etiquette (part two)

Because there is no reason in the world why you can’t have your own Easter hunt for adults, invite some friends to bring a basket of goodies and ask someone to hide them around the house. Now you have a chance to play hard against people your own size. You can add a few glasses of champagne to make it feel more grown up, but if you really want to wear a bunny outfit, that’s ok too.
