70's Roller Disco Slot Machine

With the 70's as our inspiration as a theme for our new slot machine we did some research, and cringing, at some really retro 1970's fashion and trends that young folks enjoyed way back then!

So how do you know if you're a 1970's Roller Disco King or Queen?

10. You shunned Inline Skates as a silly new fad and chose to instead hang on to your trusty old-school pair!

The Roller Disco still existed in the 1980's even though Disco on the whole was rejected. During this time skate manufacturers started to distribute inline skates to ice hockey players and by the end of the 1980's this style of skate became popular with the general public. These days you'll be hard-pressed to find the 1970's style skate. Although, as with most things, they might just become retro enough for a comeback and especially in the wake of the YouTube sensation of Roller Babies in this Evian advert.

9. The Bee Gees always have been, and always will be, your favorite band

The BeeGees rose to fame along side the Disco Era and when their popularity began to decline, so too did they. There was actually a huge backlash against Disco following it's immense popularity but if you were a true 1970's roller-disco-lover then this wouldn't have stopped you!

8. You can easily define the word "Discotheque"

Did you know that prior to this most nightclubs only had live bands performing? It was only in the 1970's disco clubs that Disc Jockey's became responsible for playing recorded music over a powerful PA system. There were some really famous Discotheques in the United States, such as Studio 54, that even celebrities were eager to get into. These clubs featured lit dance floors and light displays that were lit up to the beat of the music as people danced the night away.

7. You watched Saturday Night Fever at the Cinema, multiple times

Although not roller-disco, this iconic movie was made during the peak of the Disco Era and helped launch the career of John Travolta. You will definitely find this in the movie collection of a dedicate Roller Disco-goer!

6. You owned a zippered jumpsuit

Eeek! Spandex and hot-pants were also some... er... interesting fashion items from the 70's. They are definitely items that are more suited to slender body types but that would never stop a true fashion-lover. We're pretty glad that this trend has been mainly lost and forgotten in the mists of time but who knows what a Roller Disco King or Queen might be wearing in the privacy of their own home!

5. Your clothing cupboard could be described as 90% plastic due to all the clothing made out of man-made material

There was suddenly a vast variety of man-made materials available and many of them were used in clothing of the 70's. You might have had to stay well away from open flames, but that didn't stop people from trying out crazes like wearing see-through plastic suits over a leotard. Possibly not the greatest idea while working up a sweat at the Roller Disco!

4. If you're a man, you owned a three-piece suit in a bright, bold colour and would think nothing of wearing a pair of platform heels!

Yes, this was another time in human history where it was not only manly but encouraged for guys to wear heels. Girls wore them too but many guys enjoyed this trend as well. However, looking back at those brightly colored (read: hideous eyesores) three-piece suits one can only but wonder what on earth they were thinking!

3. You can bust a couple of Tony Manero moves, on roller-skates or off them

Being able to bust a move off the Disco Floor was just as important at the Roller Rink. There were a couple of leg-breaking moves the experts were able to pull off but number 2 on our list was the most important of all.

2. You know how to "Shoot the Duck"

This is when you know you are on your way to Roller Disco stardom! I will even admit at this point that back when I mastered the art I actually managed to win a prize at my own local Roller Disco for holding this pose the longest.

And, number ONE on our list for all you Roller Disco Kings and Queens....
Drum roll Please!

1. You feel an overwhelming sense of longing and nostalgia when watching this movie trailer!
